308 Win leads to 7-08, and it is a good cartridge.

One could use the 7PRC as a target rifle and have a 7mm-08 or 7x64 for hunting using similar reloading components - to save money



The powder would probably be different, but bullets might used in both, depending on barrel twist and intent.

Primers could be used in both, except if one wants/needs to use magnum primers in the larger PRC case.

There is not much to save because the most expenses are calibre specific, or basically equal for both calibres.

A bit of saving IF your other rifle was 223 , 6.5 ,  or 30 calibre
Dies would of course be different - although 7x64 has been around for a long time so could get purchased used
Not sure if HOWA does a 7x64 ? - they do do a 7mm-08






Howa doesn't do a 7x64 but they may have done a run of 280Rem, which is for all practical purposes the same cartridge with an American name. Anyway it's a moot point because we don't get it in SA.

I have a 7x64 built on a P14 action. A wonderful calibre and mostly chambered by Euopean manufacturers (Sako, Tikka, Mauser, CZ)

I would suggest a 7-08 as a second rifle as that is much easier to obtain in South Africa. Many more manufacturers have that in their line. An Ackley conversion would be the optimum for a reloader.

Who did your P14 conversion ?
P14 was for the British 303 - a rimmed cartridge
P17 was for the American 30-06 rimless
Although one sees more P14's in SA than P17's
An old one not too expensive but all the necessary modification - another story
