There are two private companies who wanted to battle foot and mouth disease.
The one is in Pretoria where some of the Onderstepoort personnel now work. They wanted to import the vaccine but the state revoked their license/permit.
The other is a laboratory near Malmesbury who wanted to produce the vaccine. They were disbanded and the people are now without work.
In both cases the state apparently stated that they will import the vaccine.

The State ! We do not have a State, we have a collection of incapables acting clever.
I am who I am - I am not who you want me to be.
Therefore I am me.

OH
They are VERY clever at finding ANY opportunity to add financial benefit to themselves
State monopoly means .. WE control access and thereby the PRICES !!!!!
So I got the low down from a vet.
1) Foot and Mouth disease is endemic to the Kruger Park. That's where it comes from, and you can't kill all the game in Kruger to protect your cows.
2) Is is an RNA virus like flu and covid, so it is continuously mutating and throwing up variants that need to be tracked to make the vaccine fit the variant.
3) In the past the government vets controlled it by monitoring stock on the border of kruger, and vaccinating the stock along the border to stop it spreading out the park.
4) The vets and scientists at Onderstepoort had the capability to identify the circulating strains and make vaccines against them. They always had a stockpile and used them to continuously create a vaccine barrier to foot and mouth around the park.
5) These vet scientists were gradually pushed out of their government jobs at Onderstepoort through golden hand shakes, and refusal by government agencies to fund their research projects in the interests of equity and redress.
6) Most of them left and a few of them started their own private animal vaccine production facilities, knowing that the time will come when Onderstepoort looses its capacity to produce the correct vaccine on time and in quantity and ability to keep up the vaccinated buffer.
7) "Right is rude" and when the old guard advised the GNU on what to do. The private companies that were well positioned were refused the business, and Mr Steenhuizen bent over blackwards to accommodate "the new" who did not have the competence to deliver the service they were supposed to.
8) The delays cost the farmers of our country dearly. How they can make a half qualified lawyer the minister of agriculture is beyond me. Politicians are not scientist and should keep their noses out of it, because in science, facts are facts. A politician or religious nut will try to convince you that an object can fall upwards, but a scientist will repeat the experiment of falling objects a million times with the same result.
9) For this reason, our country should be run by qualified engineers, doctors, economists etc who actually understand the fundamentals.
OK rant over.
9) For this reason, our country should be run by qualified engineers, doctors, economists etc who actually understand the fundamentals.
That's the key right there!
The problem with democracy is that the most popular person gets voted in instead of the most qualified to do the job.
