Moose react as though they have peanut size brains. All large mammals have a lot of oxygen in their blood and therefore take a longer time to die from a lung shot.

Correct, and if the animal doesn't know where the threat is, it doesn't just flee.

Please correct me if necessary: the first shot was into the shoulder, and probably didn't hit the vitals.

That was a bull, but I have seen that often with pregnant animals (didn't realise it at the time 🙁 ) They often stand where they are shot, and take a lot more lead than normal animals before dropping. It's those pregnancy hormones that seem to give a female super powers ;D

I have seen same thing with kudu cows shot with unbeknown calf's at side, they fight a lot harder.
One of those things that weigh heavily on my mind.....................

This is one of the reasons I prefer not shooting female animals. Those calves (born & unborn) weigh on my conscience, too.
