How times change. In 2007 there were nationwide just 25 deaths attributed to hunting-firearms accidents. Apparently in 1943 there were so many that Michigan found it educational and prophylactic to print the data on hunting licenses. Hunting and shooting training/education programs since then have done a commendable job of making hunting with firearms one of the safest of our outdoor activities.

I always think of Golf and hunting in the same light. The equipment is expensive, and dangerous. The number of times golfers are injured or killed by accident vs hunters? The number of times golf clubs are used in domestic violence, vs hunting rifles? The number of skollies that use a golf club as a weapon vs a rifle? Makes me want to start an NGO called golf club free South Africa ;D
We can do background checks on the owners, insist that the clubs be licensed, make sure golf courses are SABS and SAPS safety approved. So much fun ;D
