Hi Folks, I am toying with an idea:
Would it be possible to download a 223 to shoot the rifle on a handgun range?
Is it feasible, and how would one proceed?
Why can't you shoot a .223 on a handgun range ?
Competition shooters do it all the time, we use the same range for handguns and semi-auto rifles.
If it's a question of down-loading the .223, anything is possible, it just begs the question - why ?

The blast of a rifle in a small, enclosed indoor range is quite a lot.
I will hopefully start teaching for FA competencies pretty soon, and was wondering about downloaded rifle cartridges. Otherwise I would have to drive out of town to a proper shooting range. I really do not want folks to shoot an MOR exam with a .22LR.
I'm not a fan of reduced loads.
If the fill ration is wrong for the powder, it explodes.
There is a lot of data on reduced 223 loads, Google it.

Agree on this - there needs to be a really good reason to try it. On the other hand, it has been done and can be calculated nowadays. Thus, even for the theoretical possibility it is something interesting to consider and discuss.
The proper solution would be to get a rifle in a handgun cartridge.
Anyone able to find Trailboss powder in SA? That would be ideal.
